Western artists use logic to utilize the relations among space, light andshadow, while traditional Chinese artists focus on flowing lines toexpress emotion and meaning. Often we see white empty space intraditional Chinese painting because it illustrates the essence - meaningcan exist without the touch brush strokes. I was given strict training ofWestern skills yet I come to my own interpretation of Western versusEastern. I seek an airy and drifting sense of “stillness”, a state existingin the duality of dynamic and static. The wings and feathers rest butstart to dance in the blink of an eye. Stillness never ceases to stop. Itawaits. It constructs the concept of space in the scope of Easterntradition. As for the other element in my painting, light, I wish to createa sense of transcendence and translucency. Brightness is a trademark ina cosmopolitan city. It expels darkness. We are driven to be dependenton light. Through my interpretation of space and light, I wish to offerviewers more stories and imagination.
